Great news!
I just heard back from CUNY’s Journalism School - I GOT IN!! Needless to say, I’m excited. And hopeful - someone wanted me! I don’t have to spend the rest of my life doing admin work in suburban New York! I don’t have to be nurse to get out of this place!
I’m still not 100% sure I’m going, but I’ve got options now and that makes me happy.

A perfect day

Go to bed at 1 a.m. in Austin, melancholy, buzzy, with a hoarse voice and a 6 a.m. alarm clock ahead.
Wake up at the appointed time, barely, and pack and arrive at the airport before dawn. Steaming hot coffee awaits. Call mom.
Then the day picks up. Watch the sunrise; hum Explosions in the Sky over West Texas; clean out the Inbox; stare at the SW U.S.; and land with a perfect view...

What I Miss Most About My Old Life
I miss my irrational optimism: I used to think the unknown, although scary, was also really exciting; that setbacks were actually exercises in creative thinking; that there was always a happy (if unexpected) ending. Needless to say, I don’t believe in those things anymore. I’m not sure I believe in much of anything at this point.
